N’s Second to Last Week
What were you grateful for this week? being able to see Ostia Antica and explore a little in the eternal city.
What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week? Dealing with an on going medical issue. It is tough to be outside of my home country and not be certain how and what the cost of getting medical attention is.
Tell us about a "wow" moment you had this week. I started prepping the photo album I will be leaving of our trip and future endeavors.
Tell us about your week! I had a blast of a week. I finally made it to Florence and I also had a small little morning trip to Ostia Antica which was beautiful. It is really amazing to be so close to so many relics of an ancient culture. It was an incredible sight to see and experience.
So much of what remains in Rome of ancient times was something that was built large and by emperors or the rich, Ostia Antica was a chance to see what a town would have looked like, to pretend I was coming home from a long days work at the docks and walking in the door to the family. I pretended we were going to see a play in the early afternoon with my best friend and his kids. It was fun to imagine what life was like for ordinary citizens and not just the ones remembered by history.
I saw the beach as well and boy I wish I had come in the summer. A freezing beach is beautiful but just not the same. I also had a day trip to Florence. Wow. I didn't see much but all I needed to see was the skyline to be taken aback and mesmerized. With so much to see and so little time to do it all I am happy I saw that and got to take in such a historical city in such a short time. It has been a rat race near the end to see things and experience the must sees of Rome and its neighbors but I know at the end of this trip I will reflect and love what I saw. You will see that next week in my final post.
