S’s First Week in Spain!

What were you grateful for this week? My host family is very nice.

What was the most challenging part of this week? I got the stomach flu my third night here and that was hard being sick in a place that isn’t my home.

Tell us about a "wow" moment you had this week. I brought my kids some cards from the United States and they love playing with them.

Tell us about your week! My week was short since I arrived on Thursday. The travel was long and tiring. However, my weekend was full of meeting friends and trying new food. I was tired from jet lag but powered through. I also got sick and that was a big challenge for me. It was hard to get sick away from your own home and not really know where everything is. But, it was a good lesson and now I am more prepared if this is to happen again (hopefully not).

On Sunday, we went to the city center. It was nice to learn about my host families way of life. I enjoyed walking around the town and hearing my family talk about all the history that is in my town. We also went and had tapas which are a traditionally Spanish style food. The two children are very nice and they do their best to speak English. The parents also know a good amount of English and that makes me feel more comfortable here as I’m working on my Spanish. I am going to continue to work on my Spanish with the parents and hopefully the girls will learn some more English. I am looking forward to next weekend because it is a festival for the town so I will be able to learn more about the culture then as well.
