What was your favorite part of this week?

My day off, fishing for crabs with Andrea, doing my own laundry.

What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week?Having to deal with behavioral issues from the child, ex. Calling me names and saying he hated me as well as not listening and my being sick and unable to eat much didn’t help the situation.

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week. I helped out in the bar, and made coffee for the grandma.

Tell us about your week! The first week is hard in any new situation, school, work, moving to a new place, etc. I think the hardest part is getting used to a new rythym of life. Luckily for me I have a town full of kind and friendly people to help me adjust to my new rythym. My host family is kind and understanding (and amazing cooks). I have made several friends outside the family and I hope to make many more. Well, in such a small town I’m sure I’ll know everyone in it by the end of my time here.

I enjoy walking around the town and noticing the little things I missed the last time I walked the streets, reading a book in the piazza in my spot which overlooks the ocean and islands nearby. The lazy days at the beach playing in the ocean with the boy I’m teaching and hunting for crabs on the rocks. Whenever he makes a catch he says “see I’m a genius, we can have these for dinner tonight they’re good trust me.”

Although we have yet to eat the catch of the day I’m inclined to believe him even though the crabs seem too small to actually eat. I learned that in Italian you don’t hunt for crabs but instead you fish for them. I also learned that driving a manual transmission is incredibly fun and terrifying at the same time especially when you are driving someone else’s car.
