What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week?Communicating with just about everyone.

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week. The first few days I think I was cleaning the dishes wrong. So now we have a system where I help by bringing the dishes to the sink and letting one of the parents finish because they prefer to load the washer themselves!

Tell us about your week! So this has been my first week here in Italy. It was a long travel from Utah up here to Northern Italy. The trip was kind of hard mostly because I was in a lot of places I hadn’t been before which made it really easy for me to get lost. Eventually I did find my way to the train station in Torino where my host Mom picked me up. I was so relieved to see her. It’s been really interesting to see how they do things here.

I’ve enjoyed living in a small city so I get to see more of the true Italian culture vs the tourist stuff. We didn’t spend a lot of time this week sightseeing but we did get to go swimming and skiing and tour the town where I will be taking language classes. I think all the coblestone roads are pretty neat. It’s been difficult trying to talk to everybody in town but I’m hoping that with practice and with a little luck I’ll figure it out.

The food is as great as it is hyped up to be. I did try some curious things this week but the octopus was the strangest. Thankfully my host dad works for the Ferrero chocolate company so I’ve been able to enjoy some of those treats. Let’s hope this next week is just as great!
