What were you grateful for this week?
This week I was grateful for [my host mom’s] patience with me. I misunderstood a few things and she was very understanding.
What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week?
The most challenging thing has been trying to navigate the bus and metro systems.
Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week. (A “wow” moment is when you went the extra mile to do something nice for your host family.)
I’ve only been with my host family since yesterday so I haven’t had much time to do anything for them, but I arrived yesterday and played with the kids for a few hours instead of taking a nap.
Tell us about your week!
The past few days have been very eventful trying to get where I need to go and figure out the public transportation systems here in Rome. On Saturday, K and I met up and traveled together to the center, but we got really lost on our way back and it took us about 4 hours to get home. It was a fun day though!
We were able to converse in English without pronouncing everything carefully or worrying about being understood. We took the metro to Termini station and walked around the city for a while. We also got gelato twice because it was so good. I only arrived at my host family’s house yesterday, but I’ve already learned so much and I can’t wait to see more of Rome and grow closer with my host family.
It was so exciting to arrive at my house and see how beautiful it was! I was pleasantly surprised at how well [my host mom] and the children speak English, and I’m so glad I can communicate with them! [My host family’s son and daighter] are so cute! On my first day, [the son] just wanted to play games for like three hours straight and it was fun to connect with him. [The daughter] is really smart and her English is very good.
The food is delicious and everyone is so friendly. It already feels like home.
