Rome-ing Abroad: A's Second Week

A is having an amazing time and really getting the full taste of Italy. This week, she made it down to Rome! Here’s what she had to say about this week:

What was your favorite part of this week?

My favorite part of my week was traveling to Rome! It’s amazing to me how close everything is to each other here. Well not necessarily “close” but close enough to travel to within a day. It’s also very cheap to do so. I got to spend the weekend in Rome with another Au pair I met here, and we had a blast.

What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week?

I think the most difficult part of my week was just adjusting to everything. Adjusting to the children’s schedule, learning what needs to be done and how to do it. Also just adjusting to things in a completely different environment then what I’m used to. I won’t lie, this week it’s been challenging, but the one thing that’s help is having a fabulous host mom. She’s really great.

Tell us about your week!

This week was amazing, it was a solid 10/10. My host family took me to a play at the “Scalla Theater” in the center. When I walked into the theater I was in complete awe by how beautiful it was. If only the theater itself was beautiful you can just imagine what the play was like. It was amazingly beautiful too. I’ve met some other Au pairs out here and I’ve been hanging out with them this past week, so that’s been fun. They’ve shown me all around Milan. Taking me to all the beautiful cathedrals, castles, and most importantly showing me the best gelato shops in town. I also was lucky enough to take a trip to Rome for the weekend. Rome was my favorite part of my week by far. It was so beautiful, and full of so much history. It’s cool how everything is so close here. Well “close” as in close enough to travel to in a day by train or plane. So pretty much week 2 so far so good. My host family is great. Hanging out with these other Au pairs makes me realize how great my host family really is. I’ve gotta say other Au pairs didn’t get as lucky with their families as I did with mine. I feel like my host mom is truly my second mom. I get to talk to her about things like boys, and whatever else is on my mind in that moment. Then she’ll give me her input and advice, just like my mom did back home. My kids are wonderful as well. I think we really are connecting!, despite the language barrier. Which by the way they are totally improving on their English day by day! Well, that’s my week in a nutshell. Ciao, xo
