What were you grateful for this week? The opportunity I had to be with my Roman family.

What was the most challenging part of this week?I got really sick, and leaving my Roman family.

Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week. I made BBQ chicken pizza for my family on my last night with them. They loved it BTW.

Tell us about your week! This week was more of a difficult one. I had to say goodbye to [my host mom, dad, and sister]. I sincerely loved my time with them and am sad that it has ended. They were so good to me and I will miss them dearly. I already do. I am really grateful that I was able to spend a couple of days with them at the beach in Fregene.

Early when I first got to Rome I told them about BBQ chicken pizza and I said that one day I would make it for them. [My host mom] seemed horrified by the idea of bbq sauce on a pizza, but I told her it was really good. So on my last night with them I made the pizza and it was a hit. Saying goodbye was hard but I genuinely believe I will see them again, whether in the US or back in Rome.

When I got to Cagliari I started to feel sick and ran a fever for a couple of days, which was not fun, and not the first impression I wanted to give [my second host mom and sister]. [My host family’s daughter] does not speak hardly any english either. I was not expecting this. We have had to use google translate a lot. I am going to start with the basics tomorrow and do actual lessons with her and not just conversational type learning.
