I was grateful to make it safely to Milan.
What was the most difficult or challenging part of this week?
Adjusting to everything new!
Tell us about a “wow” moment you had this week.
I brought my host family Hershey’s candy bars from the U.S. – Cookies N’ Cream, Pretzel, and Reese’s flavor. And I in turn have had some delicious Italian food with them.

I got to spent some of my layover between flights in downtown London on my way to Milan, and I really enjoyed it! The old buildings were beautiful, but I was just as captivated by the modern design of many of the newer buildings.
Once I arrived in Milan I got to meet my host family. Their son is the cutest kid ever, and I look forward to getting to know him and the whole family better!
I had my first Italian class and that went really well. There are people in my class from the Philippines, Israel, Korea, New Zealand and probably some other places, too! My Italian is better than I thought it was, or at least the class went much better than I expected!
Milan is beautiful. There are so many historic buildings and things to see. I’ve already been able to pass by some of the famous buildings, but there’s definitely enough history and art in this city to keep you occupied for any amount of time.
So far I haven’t eaten any pasta or pizza! Italians try to eat a balanced diet just like everyone else, and they have a huge variety of traditional and modern food to choose from. For example, I ate potato and rice soup, pumpkin, seaweed and sushi for dinner with my host family a couple days ago.
