SPAIN AU PAIR PROGRAM

program overview

Become an au pair in Spain with Rome Abroad and immerse yourself in a land of delectable cuisine, vibrant history, stunning art, and warm, welcoming people. As an au pair, you’ll live with a host family, providing childcare and light household assistance.

In exchange for helping a local family with childcare, you’ll receive free meals, your own private room, a weekly stipend, and plenty of free time to explore. This au pair program is your chance to live in Spain for free, immerse yourself in the Spanish language, and experience world-famous destinations like Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, Granada, and Valencia—all while living like a local.

WHEN YOU AU PAIR WITH ROME ABROAD YOU GET

Free room and board with your host family (yes, that means delicious Spanish cuisine too—hello tapas, paella, and churros con chocolate!)

A weekly stipend (between €70–€100) that you can save or use to explore Europe.

Plenty of free time—travel to neighboring countries, enjoy local festivals, or simply soak up the sun in your new Spanish hometown.

Pre-approved family match—you’ll get to know your host family through video calls before you even book your flight.

Support every step of the way—our Rome Abroad team is here to guide you from application to landing and beyond.

If you’re kind, independent, love working with kids, and are craving something more than the same old routine—this could be your moment.

When you become an au pair with Rome Abroad, you’re not just helping a family—you’re becoming a part of one. You’ll build real, lasting relationships with your host family and experience everyday life in Spain through the eyes of a local.

Before you even board your flight, you’ll have the chance to connect with your host family through detailed profiles and video chats—so you feel confident and excited about who you’re living with.

All your living expenses are covered, and with a weekly stipend, your earnings can go straight toward weekend trips, travel adventures, or saving up for what’s next.

Your time off? It’s yours to explore. Whether you’re wandering cobblestone streets, catching a train to the French Riviera, or dancing at a summer festival, you’ll have the freedom to make the most of Europe. Plus, most au pairs enjoy free time during the day while the kids are at school.

At Rome Abroad, we’re here every step of the way—from helping you find the perfect host family to providing travel tips, visa guidance, and ongoing support once you’re abroad.

Every au pair journey is unique. Each host family has their own lifestyle and needs, and each au pair (that’s you!) brings different goals and expectations. While there’s no one-size-fits-all experience, here’s what you can generally expect from your time abroad:

Before You Travel

Review detailed family profiles, connect over video calls, and ask questions so you feel confident about your match. You’ll agree on your responsibilities, compensation, and have the chance to meet the family—before you ever board your flight.

When You Arrive

Your host family will greet you at the nearest airport and bring you to your new home. You’ll have your own private room and time to settle in, meet the family, and get familiar with your new neighborhood. Whether you spend your first few days bonding with the kids or exploring local cafés, it’s your time to ease into life abroad.

Ongoing

Since your responsibilities and schedule are agreed upon in advance, there are no surprises. Most Au Pairs help out around 20–30 hours per week with tasks like:

    • Caring for the kids at home
    • School drop-offs and pickups
    • Trips to the park or playground
    • Planning fun, creative activities
    • Light household help (like tidying up or helping with the dishes—just   like any family member would)

You’ll always have at least 2 days off (usually Saturdays and Sundays) each week to explore your new surroundings.

And the best part? We’re with you every step of the way. From daily questions to big-picture support, our team is here to guide you through it all.
