Our Teach in China program is an amazing opportunity to live and work in China. Unlike our other programs, you don’t live with a host family abroad. Instead, you teach in a local school and live in your own private apartment. Not only do you have your own place, but you also get a competitive salary (more on that later!). Living in China can be a wonderful adventure. With a myriad of beautiful natural sights and busy city life, you won’t run out of things to do. In China, you can:

  • enjoy new foods
  • see incredible sights
  • make international friends
  • learn Mandarin and more

China is also a place of rich history and famous sites. Here you can see incredible sites such as:

  • the Great Wall of China
  • the Terracotta Army
  • the Forbidden City and more

There are 5 different types of schools in China and they are all over the country. You can choose to teach in a medium-sized or smaller city. Or you can teach in locations such as large cities such as Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Zhengzhou, and more.

Without further ado, here are 20 reasons to teach English in China:

  1. πŸ’Έ You make great money.
When you teach English in China, you can make a very competitive salary. Average salary is about $1900 to $3000 per month! Your teaching experience and the school type can affect how much money you make. But remember, you don’t have to worry about paying for rent because that’s included in the program. Which brings us to reason number two…
  2. 🏠 Your housing is included.
Sounds too good to be true, right? Wrong. It’s actually true. The demand for English teachers in China is so high that the schools are happy to provide living arrangements. You’ll either get a private apartment or a separate rent stipend for your own place.
  3. 🌏 When it comes to travel, it’s now or never.
With a worldwide pandemic, international travel is limited at the moment. Teaching in China with a working visa is one of the best ways to live abroad right now. Plus even after the pandemic is over, life only gets more complicated. If you don’t explore the world now, when will you?
  4. ✈️ Your flights are included.
Upon successful completion of the program, you’ll receive a stipend for your flights. Free flights across the Pacific? Not a bad deal!
  5. 🦠 Low pandemic risk.
China currently has a level 1 or low risk for COVID-19. Consult the CDC website to check current information and get updates.

  6. 🐼 Get real cultural experience.
Unlike tourists who just scratch the surface, you’ll get an authentic experience. You get to eat, travel, and experience life as a local! That’s something not many people get the chance to do.
  7. πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ Chance to learn Mandarin.
Want to learn the most-spoken language in the world? Yep, that’s right. An estimated 917 million people speak Mandarin. Talk about an incredible opportunity.
  8. πŸ‘― Make friends from all over the world.
You’d be surprised how many international people want to meet new people! You can meet lots of friends through your employer and through our local contacts. You like board games? There’s a WeChat group for that. How about hikes? Chess? English speakers? Yep, it’s all covered. Plus, there are tons of clubs and ways to meet people.
  9. πŸ‘” It’s an excellent resume builder.
Not only will you have the adventure of a lifetime, but you can build work experience at the same time! Living and working abroad is also an excellent talking point for future job interviews and networking opportunities.
  10. πŸ₯ Health & accident insurance included.
COVID-19 is a legitimate concern right now. Although China’s risk is low, you still want to be covered. knowing that you have accident and health insurance included can give you peace of mind.
  11. πŸ’» Convenient work schedule (About35 hours per week or less, Monday to Friday)
Depending on the school, your schedule may vary slightly. But most schools have hours around 35 hours or less per week. No matter where you teach, 2 days off per week is standard.
  12. πŸš‡ Training & travel tips included.
For each of our programs, you’ll receive training and travel tips at orientation. This includes information such as how to use your electronics abroad, the best ways to get around, and cultural etiquette.
  13. πŸ“± 24/7 local support during your stay.
Through our local contacts, you’ll have 24/7 support during your contract. If you have any issue or question, they are there to help!
  14. πŸ’° Bonus $1100 upon completion.
Ummm do we need to elaborate??
  15. 🍲 You get to take care of your own food.
Let’s be real. Sometimes it can be hard eating food from another culture, especially if it’s different from what you’re used to. In this program, your only cost is your own food. So you’re in control of your meals and snacks! Food is also super affordable so it’s easy to either make your own stuff or eat out.
  16. πŸ‰ Affordable lifestyle.
What do you get when you have a high salary plus a low cost of living? Tons of room for fun! Do all the things you want to try. We’ve had friends go bungee jumping, spend a weekend in the Philippines, and more.
  17. πŸ’΅ Pay off debt (or save for a down payment!)
Teaching in China is a great way to pay off your student debt,. You can also save up for a down payment for a house when you get back to your home country.
  18. πŸ›‚ Your visa is included.
In order to teach in China through our program, you need a work visa. Sometimes that paperwork can get complicated. Don’t worry, you’ll get personal assistance and all the associated costs are covered.
  19. πŸ“… Flexible timing.
Go as long as a year or teach just a semester. You can go anytime of the year β€” choose spring, fall, winter, or summer semester and teach for at least 4 months.
  20. πŸ‘ͺ You can take your spouse.
If you and your spouse want to teach together, go for it! You’ll make twice the money and have double the fun. What if you’re married but your spouse doesn’t want to teach? Or maybe already has a remote job? That’s fine! You can still go and live together, as long as one of you is a teacher. What if you have kids? You can still take them with you (you’ll just need to get the correct visa for family members). Don’t worry, we’ll help with all the details.
