Top 9 Sights in Paris

✨ The Eiffel Tower – I was surprised at really how beautiful this was! I know it’s pretty cliche to see the Eiffel Tower in Paris, but I still think it’s very much worth seeing. You can get tickets online in advance or buy them when you get there. I’d recommend buying them ahead of time.
Rick Steves has a really interesting and informative podcast episode about the Eiffel Tower, and it helped me appreciate the history of this cool structure!

You get a great view of Paris from the top of the tower which is really nice. Don’t rule out going at night, that was one of my favorite moments in Paris!

✨ The Louvre Museum – Some people will rag on the Louvre and say it’s overrated (or snobby) but honestly, it’s famous for good reasons. I recommend studying out what you want to see first before you get in and really utilize the maps to see those things first. Then use the rest of your time to see something else! It contains so many masterpieces it would be a shame to miss one of the best ones. Also FOR SURE get your tickets online ahead of time. Either buy them individually for the Louvre or get the Paris museum pass (which gets you into all the museums in Paris). Also, if you’re a student you might get discounts so be sure to check that before you buy!

✨ Sainte Chapelle – Absolutely one of my favorite sights in Paris. All the stained glass is just incredible and actually took my breath away when I walked into the room! Highly, highly recommend. Get your tickets ahead of time here.

✨ Versailles – Definitely study the history of King Louis XIV before you head to this extravagant palace, city, and gardens. I also recommend listening to the guided walking tour of Versaille by Rick Steves as you go through. It’s super interesting without getting too detailed.

My favorite part of Versailles is the Hall of Mirrors — it’s just incredibly beautiful and so much in history has happened there!

✨ Catacombs of Paris – If you’re into graveyards, history, and an overall feeling of morbidity, then the catacombs are right up your alley! Or down your tomb…

To be warned, this can be a really tricky place to see because sometimes they close early! So definitely book your tickets wayyy ahead of time and get in line way before you need to!

✨ Disneyland Paris – To be fair, I haven’t personally been to Disneyland Paris. However, dozens of Rome Abroad Travelers have been and each one has been really pleased with their experience!

✨ Notre Dame Cathedral – Although this cathedral is still closed to visitors due to fire damage (April 2019), it’s still a gorgeous edifice to see. I’d highly recommend walking by, or riding a Lime scooter on your way to another tourist attraction.

✨ Arc de Triomphe – This was something that actually exceeded my expectations. Not only is the structure itself really interesting to look at, but the history behind it is fascinating. It’s also incredible to see all the traffic and look down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées from the vantage point of the Arc.

✨ Sacre-Coeur & Montmartre – This was actually a great view of Paris and something a little different from what I typically thought of when I heard the word Paris. I really liked the walk up to the building and the view was really nice. The church itself was beautiful and the basement was really interesting too.
